The Cedar Tree Project explores art, cultural heritage, perceptions, and identity through the lens of Southwest Asian & North African (SWANA) and SWANA American artists. CTP amplifies art from the SWANA diaspora and invites people to develop deeper understanding and empathy through artistic exchange. Curated by Minnesota based dance and interdisciplinary artist Sharon Mansur, events include dance performances, dance films, visual art installations and exhibitions, as well as workshops, community meals, panel discussions, lecture/demonstrations, artist talks and other gatherings with Mansur and visiting artists.
We’re living in a time where there are challenging and complicated questions, misconceptions and sociopolitical concerns regarding the SWANA region. As an SWANA/Arab American artist I’m grateful for the opportunity to add to the conversations by sharing aspects of my Lebanese heritage, my family’s immigrant history and my personal story through art, food and dialogue. As a curator I am thrilled to have the opportunity to invite artists of the SWANA diaspora to our community, and offer a rich range of perspectives and expressions. ~ Sharon Mansur
